Mithali Raj needs no introduction. From being the former captain of the India women’s cricket team to being the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket, she has a lot more to offer. The right-handed batsman was in the capital to promote Taapsee Pannu starrer Well done Mithuwhich is based on his life.

Taapsee Pannu is seen playing the role of Mithali on screen. When Mithali came to know about the biopic being made on her, she could not believe for a moment.

Mithali Raj told IANS in an interview, “Initially I thought they were joking. But later when the makers explained to me in detail I realized that it is reality and they are watching it.” Mithali said that after knowing about the biopic being made on her, she took it as a great opportunity.

Mithali Raj further added, “I also think it is a great opportunity to get the journey of women’s cricket in our country. And it is also important for people to know and understand that women with support system in our country. When and what hardships do athletes go through and the way society treats female athletes.”

Mithali shares how she reacted when she found out Taapsee She will be seen portraying him on screen.

“When I got to know that she (Taapsee) is doing the role, I did my homework as well. I have seen two of his films. He played the role of a hockey player so I knew he didn’t need to work hard on fitness or getting an athlete’s body. But maybe the cricket part skill is something on which he might have to work a lot but then after watching the trailer I must admit that he has worked really hard. ,

Further, Mithali Raj talks about the changing landscape of women’s cricket and how it is gaining more prominence and gaining its independent identity.

Mithali said, ‘I think a lot has changed after the 2017 ODI World Cup. We slowly started coming out of the shadows. Earlier, the Women’s T20 World Cup was also run along with the Men’s T20 World Cup. Right now it is a standalone tournament, gradually leagues are taking place across the world. And I’m sure that at some point, maybe by next year, we’ll have our own league. ,

She also pointed out that the way viewership has changed and how people are now more interested in watching women’s cricket.

“So, now women’s cricket is ready to stand on its own. And in terms of the number of spectators and the way people come to watch our matches, that has also changed before, in fact, as many people knew we were playing an international series, so the stadiums would be empty. . Now you know that when it is well marketed and matches are telecasted, a lot of people come to the stadium to see us and a lot of young kids are coming to watch our matches. I think it has definitely changed a lot and I am sure it will change a lot in the future as well,” she concluded.
